What is the “sufficient cruising range” of an electric motorcycle? Three hundred miles? Zaiser Motors thinks so, and this is what it claims the company’s first model will achieve.
With a range of 300 miles (482 kilometers), Zaiser Motors hopes that it can create an electric motorcycle that can compete with fuel motorcycles on almost all indicators.
As we all know, electric motorcycles are superior to gasoline-powered motorcycles in terms of power and performance, but cruising range and cost are the two main areas where they have not yet reached the same level.
The upcoming Zaiser Electrocycle is the first model launched by the brand and may solve the first of these two obstacles. But since the expected price is “below $25,000″, the second one remains to be seen.
Despite the promise of the new company, even the first one can be a daunting task. Zaiser claims that, thanks to a large 17.3 kWh battery, the Electrocycle (which currently seems to only exist in renderings) will reach a range of 300 miles (482 kilometers).
The battery will be larger than those provided by Zero Motorcycle and Harley-Davidson LiveWire.
In contrast, Italian electric motorcycle manufacturer Energica’s 21.5 kWh battery pack provides its bicycle with a maximum city range of 248 miles (400 kilometers), although it is nearly 25% larger than the battery proposed by Zaiser.
As far as Zaiser Motors is concerned, it claims that its 120 mph (193 km/h) electric bike will contain many interesting features and technologies. These include fast charging functions, all-wheel drive via a pair of in-wheel motors that also support traction control, “auto-stabilization” and modular batteries.
The last one should be interesting because it allows the rider to park the motorcycle on the street and carry the battery inside for remote charging.
Although “carry” may not be the correct word. The SONDORS Metacycle has a 4 kWh battery (less than a quarter the size of an Electrocycle) and weighs close to 50 pounds (22 kg). Therefore, Electrocycle may need to be equipped with its own matching trolley.
If so, I hope that the Zaiser team will hire the same design studio to create the battery car, because they did make a number on the bike. Zaiser Electrocycle adopts a new retro cruiser-style design, with a large panel and stacked taillights, which looks both eye-catching and comfortable. In other words, very.
For an industry that has so far prioritized naked roadsters and sports bikes over comfortable cruisers, long saddles and relaxed seating positions are undoubtedly a welcome addition.
Zaiser claims that Electrocycle will come out “at the end of 2021 and early 2022.” By then we will know whether this is the next major breakthrough for electric motorcycles or more foggers. Please stay tuned to find out, sooner or later.
I am a big supporter of electric motorcycles like anyone, but I also know when it sounds too good to be true. It didn’t cross the line, but it was cut so close at the apex that its knee pads were painted with road marking paint.
If they can provide these specifications, then I will be impressed. More likely, if this bike is launched in 2022, it will travel 300 miles at an ridiculously low speed, which is more like 200 miles in a normal city cycle.
